Overmood

Overmood did a good job by handling out their latest lo-fi electropoppy workover for Post-Punk The Banshee’s first single “Kicks Up” from their new Ep (dated the streets yesterday).

These 4 charming Italian studs from Alessandria suprise with a gem of how easygoing some stuff can sound. It’s like waking up in the morning and not thinking about stuff you do, you know these moments, where lying is absolutely impossible and being ashamed is a no-think-of-it, cause you’re still too out of it and in cure-mode. However, “Kicks Up” in the hands of Overmood is so lovely askew and discreet haunting, it has hardly potentiality to run all spring.

Chasing Summer Love

Our beloved and heavy rotated friends Anoraak and Error Love spent endless hours with their common band Pony Pony Run Run in the studio to create that perfect summer song we’re all searching for piggishly.

This powerfull electro-pop-track makes you feel aestival where ever you’re at and will definitely find it’s way into everybody’s heart. If not you just can be a living stone.
We here at TFL couldn’t overcome the temptation to vault on our Harleys and start southbound roadtrippin’. Well, of course we don’t own Harleys and of course we don’t have time for such falderal - but we can dream, can’t we!? Pony Pony Run Run TURN IT ON!

Hyperactive Mode

A few weeks ago Teen and myself get gussied up to be show-stoppers, knock back some drinks with the hoi polloi and let ‘em luxuriate in our savoir-vivre while ranting about all the world and his brother. But because Teen can’t handle alcohol, one beer puts him under the table, I had to represent the crew on the floor on my own. Well, to be honest - I put some beer into Teen’s beer to get the chance of showing my new jumping jack moves and being in the limelight single-handedly.

If you ever wanted to view a supernova - this night was the golden opportunity for you. Not really because of my glorious dancing, but rather of Mitropamusik on the stage, behind the mic, at the tables, his laptop and sundry other noice making tools, behind the bar serving cocktails to the audience, drinking his self-made cocktails, talking to everybody, giving dance lessons to everybody, switching his outfit four times just to take the first one again, playing chess versus himself and selling his CD’s at the entry - and all this at the same time and without any delay. Never seen someone such high energetic on the stage like this boy before.

Mitropamusik breaks the bounds of various genres and reassemble ‘em into his own style full of vibranting alternation. He’s singing, in my native language German, about the swayings of our fast life, about love, desire, dreams, doubts and simply about all the weeny odds and ends of everydays life and snatches all this into a fine mixture of heart touching and propulsive songs.

My car stereo even refuses to spit his CD back to me and if you also like what you hear, you can get Mitropamusik’s latest record “Im Land Der Staedte” right here or at PoorDog. Nothing left to say.

Romanthony

You dig romantic tunes? You dig heartwarming, powerful vocals, yelling for more in a life than that fungous slipslop running in the pop-music-television. You’re a pop-kid, forget Robyn, throw away your Amy Winehouse-poster hanging next to the mirror, admit that Madonna passed the apex and Rihanna has not to be the ultra-topping, because you lost curiosity and candidness for unknown stuff and you didn’t realize. This man is bringing back curiosity.

Imagine a noble boy standing strong on a stage screaming all his agony and blitheness into the empty hall! Imagine more Prince than Prince 2K8, a high dose of funk, permanent warming your heart, making listeners feeling with him, wishing to become background-singers for his track, sharing a fresh 80s feeling on rolling beats and catchy melodies. Conceivable, that listening to this man live would be like nonstop-sparkling stars around your torso and absolving sins. His name: Romanthony.

Ladytron’s new beau “Velocifero”
Home, Music, New Release, Electropop 1st Apr 2008 // 12:19 am

Ladytron - Velocifero

They hided so long. And waiting in your cold one-room-apartment has been more than worthy, when checking the first extraction of Ladytron’s latest release “Velocifero”. If you are not such boys or girls talking hours about their new art-projects in their living-sleeping-room-combination without firing just to protect a forest or an organic farm of your choice and spotted Ladytron would perfectly match to your longhair lifestyle, read on.

First to smell, first to taste, first to flirt is first track of the record, that is kicking bricks out of walls. “Black Cat” sees the lights of day since no more than 70 hours and you’re warmly invited to take part.

The hard facts tonight:
Ladytron is still Liverpool.
Ladytron is still Ladytron, of course the voice of Helen Marnie is still the same sofd and disarmingly one.
Ladytron is still Ladytron, of course the voice of Mira Aroyo is still the same bulgarian, rough, drab gem.
The album was not recorded in Bejing.
Full-length Velocifero will date the street on June 3rd.
Ladytron recorded in Paris this time, being busy with Alessandro Cortini and Vicarious Bliss.
We agree to Missingtoof, Ladytron sounds always better in bunches, so head over for more.

Johnny Neon
image: Ross Garret

I admit: I never thought about South Africa when thinking about music and was never curious enough to check up on my own, what they’re doing down there. Great, that a boy named Ben Rausch shoved over a mail to share his Synthpop tunes with us.

His band Johnny Neon - playing analogue synthesizers - are blessed with extremely comfortable voices sharing with the audience and crash into your ears with beautiful tunes, appeasing the hardest hustlers and strongest weightlifters. These tracks are a gem for daybreaks to get up with a smile and gleaming sunbeams around your head.

Btw: Did somebodys grandpa sold all his holding, did transfer all his stocks and took a no-return-ticket from Germany to South Africa, just because of the overwhelming biota? Is it true that many players dream of emigrating to South Africa, living on the southest edge of the world, the Cape Agulhas? Do they play instruments the other way round down there in South Africa? Did I say South Africa too often?!

Drifting Away

Home Video
image: Timothy Saccenti

Instructions manual for drifting away is the best characterization for the sound that Home Video are creating. A terrific mixture of haunting vocals and gentle lyrics carried by the warm vibrations of synthesizer-melodies and an emotive bass.

Home Video are Collin Ruffino and David Gross, transplanted from the misunderstood landscape of New Orleans and now living in the brooding brownstones of Brooklyn, New York. They’ve been performing one of their new songs live over the past few months and it’s gotten such an amazing audience response that they’ve decided to offer it as an exclusive early single from their second full-length album which they intend to finish this spring.

“I Can Make You Feel It” is an epic dance song about love and longing that has a massive, wall-of-sound-y ending that’s really fun for us to play (it’s our first song with a quasi piano solo). It’s also the first song we’ve recorded with our amazing live drummer Jim Orso, who brings new life to the beat.

We’re curious about the full album and invite you until then to drift away with us, a bit…

Plastic Operators

Plastic Operator’s “Home 0207″ has spawned 5 brand new floor-filling and mind-rocking remixes. Wait till you see what these creative masterminds have done with the inherently gorgeous track!
From the twisted jackin’ house remix by Speaker Junk, to the two part dance-floor monster by Hermanos Inglesos and the chemically induced peak-time Chewy Chocolate Cookies remix, this latest Fine Day Records release is set to be huge.

We’ve choose the “Hermanos Inglesos Remix Part 1″ to explain what muscle-bounding things we have to handle here at TFL-HQ. Even we’re world heavy-weight champion in kick-boxing, judo and wrestling, have XXL-sized upper-arms, work as governor in California and pull trucks with our metal-toothed cannon when we have lunchtime - sometimes we get knocked down by tiny things that comes out of a zip-file folder! So watch yourself!

Rupert Falsch
Home, Music, Electropop, Pop 23rd Feb 2008 // 11:13 am

Rupert-Falsch

Something I neglected a bit latterly, are songs with lyrics in my native language German. But I first became aware of this fact, as I stumbled across the myspace page of Rupert Falsch. This is what I was missing a little - the intelligent, reflective, impulsive, elaborate, winding and may a little twirled usage of the German language.

This guy comes quiet with seemingly sophisticated lyrics over dry synthesizer beats and melancholic indie guitars. Rupert doesn’t know what really counts in life yet, but it seems singing his songs makes this incertitude a bit tolerable at least. One thing he definitely realized for his own - you can’t have the cake and eat it, too.
However, enough of pieces of wisdom. Start listen to his great easygoing melodies and lyrics.

Alphabeat

Danish Pop band Alphabeat poplocking hardly poppy, dither through the state with couthie sounding rockypop tunes and we wouldn’t be Germans, if we were not tolerant, haha! But their remixes come around like something absolutely different and keep kicking our butts with highest boots constantly, until we rub our glamorous bodies on some churches to ecstasy.

“Fascination Frankmusic” is such a gem keep raising your heartbeat constantly until you explode to thousand pieces next to your friends, that stand beside you behave astonished. We got one track to share sneaking along the avenue like a re-edit of the edit and hard to bust.

You can catch them from March to April in UK, stalking their profile for exact dates and locations.

Heat Like Me

Did you know New Zealand comes with an own electro-music-scene? You didn’t? Well, we too - but Brenny O’Kane, Darren Inwood, James Goldsmith and Rachel Service of Heat Like Me proves the case for this fact. And hey, they don’t have to hide themselves behind the big sibling Australia with all it’s aureate acts.

The foursome bring different elements to the groups sound. They’re largely inspired by electro, funk and early nineties and blends all this elements with the latest in 70’s synth technology and a fistful of homebrew electronics. The result is a fun and infectiously danceable mix you will be gripped by immediately and the whole world should know about.

Currently Heat Like Me are working on a self-recorded and funded EP to release this year.

Firekrotch

NY Boys and Girl Firekrotch gleams by rewarding us with tracks, that settle down with comfortable vocals, softsliding beats and reminding hooks. We picked 3 of the package that call for fire, when you’ll skid these hotties in your fathers garage.

They’re going to set his beamer on fire: “Wait” ignites the whole blast like as if by magic, “Bullet” is heating the supernova with a clear and unequivocal fronting against all your yelling neighbours and “She’s Bad” makes you deciding to blame it all on your sister, when you hear the sirens coming, while grilling your beef.

Peter Dragontail

Maybe you remember his name from the Yelle-remixes, where he punched his blinking “Ce Jeu”.
Peter Dragontail is crashing his new treasure into our mailbox, sounding like bullshit. But it’s not, hu!

Philly Pete is claiming, that voracious electropop chimeras do exist and likes to convince you with his tune, something between an electric accident and a glamorous gig in the most suitable, comfortable bathrobe on a fluffy stage. We dig it, so reward you with 2 extra mashups from Peter.
